Polling Stations
In 2021, there were 179 polling stations in Thripunithura constituency. These include J.B.S
Kundannoor, Fisharies College Madavana, Govt. Boys & Girls High Schools Thripunithura, Palace
Higher Secondary School, R.L.V UPS, Government Sanskrit H.S.S, St. Antony’s U.P.S Panangadu,

Geographic & Demographic Peculiarities
Geographically, the area includes both dense urban wards near Kochi and periurban panchayats
bordering backwaters, estuaries and suburbs such as Udayamperoor and Kumbalam. Irumpanam,
part of northern Thripunithura, hosts major oil‐corporation industrial units—adding an industrial
edge to the region.
Demographically, the electorate is substantial: around 198,000 voters (2016), with a turnout of
~73% in 2021. The constituency matches Ernakulam’s overall profile of high literacy and urban
density.
Main Sources of Income & Economic Strata
Ernakulam district is Kerala’s wealthiest, with vibrant commerce, MSMEs, trade, fisheries and
agriculture sectors. Within Thripunithura, income sources include:
 Trading/business and services in urban wards, linked to Kochi’s commercial hub.
 NRIs and remittances, especially from households in Thripunithura town and surrounding
villages.
 Agriculture and aquaculture in the panchayat zones: rubber, pineapple, coconut, inland
fisheries along the backwaters.
Overall, the majority falls into the middle-income bracket, reflecting urban professionals, small
traders, and small landholding farmers. A smaller yet visible segment belong to the
belowpovertyline (BPL) category, especially among fishing families and agricultural laborers in
peripheral wards.
Recent Development Activities
The Thrippunithura metro terminal, opened on 6 March 2024, marked the southern endpoint of
Kochi Metro, enhancing connectivity significantly. Meanwhile, a proposed Tripunithura bus-terminal
under the Integrated Transit Hub scheme is pending state approval as of July 2025—crucial for
linking rail and metro transit.

At the state level, infrastructure & welfare programmes across Kerala promise uplift: coastalerosion
control, electrification, and educational investments have been approved, though not all apply
directly to Thripunithura. Thripunithura thus presents a blend of cultural heritage, mixed urbanrural
economy, active middleclass electorate, and improving infrastructure. From traditional arts capital
to emerging transit hub, its future hinges on development with equity.
