Medical Education in Kerala started in 1951 with the establishment of the first Medical College in Trivandrum in 1951. Soon Medical College, Calicut was established in 1957. Later, Medical College, Kottayam was started in 1962. TD Medical College, Alleppey was one of the first Medical College to be set up in the private sector as early as 1963 and was later merged with the Govt. Medical College. Trichur Medical College was started in 1982 with an admitting strength of 80 now being raised to 150.
Prior to that, he served as Joint Director (from May 2020), a pivotal role during the state's COVID‑19 response, and has also held leadership positions as Principal at Government Medical Colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Idukki .
