The constituency featured about 162–189 polling stations in recent elections, up from 140 in 2016

in all wards. Examples include:
Aided Mappila LPS in Chembra (East & West wings)

Government Higher Secondary School, Pattambi town with multiple wings
GLPS Kizhayur (East, West, North blocks)
Community halls and LP/UP schools in Valloor, Vilayur, Ongallur, and Nedungottur
panchayats.
This distribution ensures widespread access from urban centres to rural wards.
Demographics & Geography
Pattambi spans approximately 180 km², with a mix of urban municipality and agrarian panchayat
regions. The 2011 population of Pattambi town stood at ~28,600, with literacy rates above average
(~83%). The constituency combines fertile plains irrigated by local rivers, mixed religious
communities, and high civic awareness.
Livelihood Patterns & Economy
Agriculture & Research: Paddy fields, coconut groves, banana and spice farms dominate
local agriculture. The Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Pattambi, supports rice
varietal research and agricultural extension efforts for local farmers.
Remittance Economy (NRIs): Like many Kerala regions, Gulf remittances power household
incomes, driving consumption, housing upgrades, and small-scale entrepreneurship.
Trade & Small Business: Town-based retail, spice trading, transport services, and fish and
timber markets serve both local and regional demand.
Public services & education: Schools, panchayat offices, and local cooperatives contribute
formal and informal jobs. There's no blue economy due to the inland geography.
Economic Strata
A large portion of residents fall into the middle-income bracket, supported by remittances, farming
yields, and small business. A smaller fraction of Gulf-returnees, traders, and landholders comprises
the higher-income tier. A modest share—smallholder farmers and laborers—remain below the
poverty line, though literacy and welfare schemes reduce severe hardship.
Recent Development Highlights
Polling improvements: The increase to around 162 polling booths in 2021 significantly
improved electoral accessibility across both urban and rural segments.
Agricultural innovation: Local rice breeding and crop improvement programmes at RARS
strengthen regional productivity and income resilience.
Infrastructure upgrades: Road enhancements, street lighting installations, and civic
sanitation improvements in towns and panchayats have improved local quality of life.
Community services: Health and education outreach through public bodies and
cooperatives continue to boost welfare and livelihoods.
Pattambi Assembly Constituency presents a balanced fusion of agricultural heritage and migration-
era prosperity. Anchored in farming, remittance-led consumption, research-driven agriculture, and
community-led trade, it supports a resilient middle-class populace. With strengthened polling
access, enhanced infrastructure, and continued support for agricultural innovation, Pattambi is
advancing steadily toward inclusive rural-urban development in central Kerala.
