It is situated 21km away from sub-district headquarter Peermade (tehsildar office) and 98km away from district headquarter Painavu. As per 2009 stats, Vandiperiyar is the gram panchayat of Periyar village. Periyar has a total population of 22,978 people, out of which male population is 11,397 while female population is 11,581.
