Medical Education in Kerala started in 1951 with the establishment of the first Medical College in Trivandrum in 1951. Soon Medical College, Calicut was established in 1957. Later, Medical College, Kottayam was started in 1962. TD Medical College, Alleppey was one of the first Medical College to be set up in the private sector as early as 1963 and was later merged with the Govt. Medical College.
