Erattupetta sits gracefully where two rivers — Teekoy and Kanjirapuzha — meet, a confluence that quite literally gives the town its name: ‘Eru’ meaning ‘two’ and ‘puzha’ meaning ‘river’ in Malayalam. Erattupetta sparkles as a foothill town in eastern Kottayam. Elevated amid verdant high ranges, it's 38–40 km east of Kottayam and has grown from a Grama Panchayat established in 1964 into a full-fledged municipality by 2015. The current Chairperson of Erattupetta Municipality is Suhara Abdul Khader. There are 28 wards in Erattupetta Municipality. The 17th ward is Sasthamkunnu Ward.
