God's Own Country Kerala, with its 590 km long coastline, 44 rivers and countless reservoirs, is a bio-rich and green land, rich in various species of fish, other animals, aquatic plants, algae and other aquatic life, which are the breeding grounds for the progress of the Malayalis. The ecosystem of the Kerala coast and other water bodies, the biodiversity and fish wealth of Kerala are the basis of the survival of more than 10 lakh fishermen. In addition, the fishermen have made progress in fish farming, tourism, education and commercial fishing. Population growth, cultural diversity and a growing economy have led to over-exploitation of resources in the state, which has consequently made the management of marine resources more complex.
