The Kerala Public Works Department (KPWD) is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure in the state. This includes buildings, roads, and bridges, regardless of the funding source. The KPWD also manages the upkeep of existing infrastructure and can undertake projects on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) or Turnkey basis.
